The Story

Brian and Brittney Kelley had their eye on the property at 4234 West County Highway 30A. They loved its cabin vibe, and all of the citrus and magnolia trees growing around it. Rosemary was growing in the backyard. They knew it was a gorgeous, special place when they bought it. The couple played around with many ideas for what to do with the space, until they landed on a great burger joint – a place for a delicious and quick bite, even later at night, when many restaurants at the beach have closed. Brian had always wanted to do something with the name “Papa Surf”: and suddenly it all clicked.

Restoring old properties has always been important to the Kelleys, who live part-time at 30A and also own the local clothing store Tribe Kelley. For them, it was important to make the old new, to restore and reinforce the building’s incredible character but make it stronger than ever before.

The Legend of Papa Surf

On the coast of Florida along Highway 30A, there lived a legendary figure known as Papa Surf. Papa Surf possessed an enduring spirit and a zest for life. With a magnificent white beard, silver-streaked hair, and a shark tooth bolo, he was an unmistakable sight.

Every day, Papa Surf would rise with the sun and head straight to the beach, his loyal surfboard tucked under his arm. The crashing waves and salty breeze fueled his soul, and he reveled in the exhilaration of riding the waves like a young man. His skill and passion for surfing were unmatched, earning him admiration from both locals and visitors alike.

But Papa Surf was more than just a wave-riding enthusiast. He had turned his love for the sea into a thriving business. Just a stone's throw from the beach, Papa Surf owned a burger shop called, unsurprisingly, Papa Surf. With its vibrant surf-themed décor and relaxed atmosphere, the place had become a beloved hangout for beachgoers and surf enthusiasts.

Papa Surf would spend his afternoons greeting customers with a warm smile and a friendly wave. His infectious laughter and colorful stories about his surfing adventures captivated the patrons, transporting them to the magical world of the ocean. His burgers, adorned with southern-inspired toppings and served on toasted buns, were legendary in their own right. Each bite was an explosion of flavors that transported customers to a paradise of culinary delights. People from far and wide flocked to Papa Surf to savor his culinary creations and bask in the aura of this unique Floridian character.

Papa Surf's days were filled with laughter, the sound of crashing waves, and the sizzle of burgers on the grill. Papa Surf’s presence brought joy and inspiration to the community, reminding them that age was just a number and that life's adventures could be embraced at any stage. Papa Surf taught them that following one's passion was the key to a life well-lived and that the ocean held boundless treasures for those who sought them.

And so, Papa Surf continued to ride the waves, bask in the warmth of the Florida sun, and create delicious memories at Papa Surf, his burger shop by the sea. Today, he remains a beloved figure on Highway 30A, embodying the spirit of adventure and reminding everyone that the soul could forever be young, just like the eternal rhythm of the sea.
